Gite for Two, your ideal break nestling on the Normandy/Pays-de-la-Loire border

On The Doorstep
The Mayenne department - next door to the Normandy region of France - is beautiful farming country and is split up into hundreds of small farms, large forests, rivers and streams. The three main towns of Mayenne, Laval and Chateau-Gontier all have castles overlooking the River Mayenne and are a haven for shoppers.

The Surrounding Area
Rolling Normandy countryside, pretty towns and villages nestling in forests or alongside gently meandering rivers – La Passonière is surrounded by the best of French countryside.

Need more info on how to find us?

Just drop us an email and we’ll do our best to help. When you book your self-catering gitefor2 cottage with us at we’ll email you a detailed directions guide. It’s based on the Channel ports but if you plan to fly and then hire a car, we can sort out directions from Paris etc.

Where We Are

Your holiday Gite for Two nestles quietly in the Mayenne department in the region of the Pays-de-la-Loire. Everyone has heard of Normandy or Brittany, but Mayenne? It’s a hidden gem. In the middle of nowhere, yet also in the middle of everything. Quiet, rolling countryside for that peaceful holiday without children, yet easy access to the Channel ports, low-cost airlines and the best the north-west of France has to offer.

We may well be in Mayenne but our village, Couesmes-Vaucé (it’s pronounced ‘kwem vosay’ but don’t ask why) is just half a mile from the Normandy border and less than 20 miles from Brittany.

By Boat
We are within a comfortable driving distance from all the major Channel ports. Many of our British guests choose the short crossing from Dover to Calais or Dunkerque for their French vacation, but the closest port to us is Ouistreham (Caen) which is around 80 miles away (under two hours drive). St Malo is around two hours away, while Le Havre, Dieppe, Cherbourg and Roscoff are a little more.

By Plane
Dinard (near St Malo) and Rennes St Jacques are the nearest (under two hours) but there are also airports at Tours, Angers, Nantes and, of course Paris-Orly and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle.

By Train
Eurostar via the Channel Tunnel. The high-speed TGV goes to Laval (35 miles away) from both Paris and Lille and there are also slower trains to Flers (25 miles).
